ASHTEAD PARK – Wildlife pond

We are pleased to announce that the Wildlife Pond was opened to the membership on June 16th.  A lot has happened in the last eighteen months, but there is still a lot to do. EDF energy were back in May 2009 and combined with 2 work Parties a lot of silt was removed from the lake. The overflow pond has been completely re-furbished and the paths around the perimiter of the lake have been completely upgraded. This year, some platforms have been put in and overhanging trees around the island have been cleared.  Margin plants will be introduced later in the year to improve the water. . Obviously there is still a lot of work to do and work parties need to be well attended, so please come along and join in the fun and turn this fishery into the jewel we know it can be.

I can’t wait to fish it! Do you have any advice on best methods and what I can expect to catch?

Been there twice, not seen any pike.
Some really good tench on bunches of worms.
In excess of 3lbs.

I have had a couple of tench just touching 6lbs both on bread flake using the ‘lift method’ just by the lily pads. Fantastic fishing and not had a problem with the pike.

Never seen Dave Tarrant with so many fish, heard he was asking for a stun gun at his local tackle shop.

Haven’t been down since it officially opened. How’s it fishing anyone? Obviously, some decent tench in there & roach I believe. What about carp & other species?

Can someone give me some advice re the two lakes in Ashtead Park. I fished the Wildlife Pond once and blanked. Which of the two is better to fish and what swims and baits are the best to try. Thanks.

Was a member for over 20 years.Took a walk with our grandson today. Most impressed with the new lake, looked very inviting despite the low water levels. If it fishes as well as Rookery used to at times it should be good

I’ve fished the Wildlife Pond 4 or 5 times now. I’ve had a lot of success close in with just a basic 5m Whip using sweetcorn, pellets & cat food. Nothing huge but you can quickly put together a net of 30 or 40 nice Roach, Rudd & Tench (up to 1lb)in a couple of hours. The bigger Tench (I’ve had one pushing 2lb and been smashed up by a couple of bigger ones) seem to love the old cat food.

There is no problem with pike but I watch the cormorants most mornings eating away the fish stocks.

They always sit on the same spots, open wings digesting stock just eaten. I give it till next spring before you lose all the stock less than 2lb.

Hi, I fancy doing some pike fishing. Does anyone have any advice about fishing for them in the wildlife Pond or perhaps the River sections of our club. Any particular areas that produce on the River or certain swims on the pond. Thanks

4 old codgers fished here on wed. 3rd. Nov.
Seven small perch caught. I had the distinction of blanking.
Could not catch the cormorant that was going back and forth.

Interesting the Clive caught during the middle of the day. From my experience the big Tench only seem to feed early morning or late evening. My best yet were caught a couple of weeks ago on a short evening session – 4.5 lbs & 5lb – both in the hour before dusk to red maggots on the feeder. Did a session today from 3pm to 9pm and no sign of the Tench! – just a few small Roach.

Has anyone caught any Bream? I didn’t know they were stocked but a friend pulled a 4 pounder out the other week!!

Has anyone fished the Wildlife Pond or The Rookery recently? Would be interested to hear anyone’s catch reports. Fish caught, swims, bait, etc.

I’ve blanked the last few times I’ve fished the Wildlife Pond & no sign of ANY silverfish activity. Are there any Silvers still in there?

And what has happened to the water level up at the Rookery? It must be down almost 2 foot. Has anyone caught anything up there recently?
