ASHTEAD PARK

After two years of negotiation we are very pleased to announce we have now obtained the fishing rights for the Wildlife Pond in Ashtead Park. This is a two and a half acre lake situated below the Rookery Pond with entrances from the A24 and Ashtead Park. As the members that have attended the work parties have found out a lot of work has been going on to improve the lake and a lot more is planned for this year. It has the makings of a great fishery and this years plans are very ambitious but we think we can succeed. There has been quite an interest from the local press and with the EA, SWT, SCC and MVDC on our side who knows what is possible.

Restocking at Wildlife Pond.

In November last year the Environment agency released 100 small Tench and Crucian Carp into the Wildlife Pond, this was followed in April this year by 50 quality Perch ranging from 8ozs to 1lb. This is part of a restocking programme which we hope will continue over the next two years as the water conditions improve.

This years match will take place on August 17th. This has become a very popular event and last year all 16 places were booked very quickly.

Despite the rain and poor fishing conditions, everyone stuck it out in the true spirit of the competition and the trophy was won by Neil Finn with the top weight of 12lbs.

Second place went to David Janson with 11lbs, and John Atkin came third with 8lbs. 2ozs

Everyone enjoyed the day despite the weather and once again the Bar-B-Q was a great success with our thanks going to everyone who contributed to the event.

NEW FISH CARE RULES

In April 2005 the LDAS committee approved a range of rules which are aimed at ensuring that fish caught on the Society's waters are returned entirely unharmed to the water. Sadly these are still not being observed by all members despite being published in the membership books.

BIG BROWNIE

THIS TRULY SPECIMEN BROWN TROUT WAS CAUGHT ON THE FETCHAM STRETCH OF THE MOLE ON 23RD JANUARY 2005.

And it didn't take one of our matchmen to catch it.
Although his dad is holding the fish, it was in fact caught by 9 year old Jack Munnings.

Congratulations Jack! everyone wishes it had been their fish.

SPRING GROVE PONDS

Since the ponds at Spring Grove were re-opened, the club has been in constant discussions with Mole Valley District Council, Thames Water, and the Environment Agency to improve the condition of the water. As a result, sacks of barley straw were introduced to help controll any algea problems, the main drain has had a thorough clean and the silt trap at the water inlet has been completely refurbished. Trees have been removed along the inlet and the construction of a reed bed to filter the water before it enters the pond has now been completed. With the addition of a bridge to cross the inlet the whole area has been greatly improved. Combined with working parties clearing the leaf litter from the bottom, we aim to create even better conditions for restocking.
